Benjamin Richard "Yahtzee" Croshaw (born 24 May 1983) is a British writer, comedian, and video game expert. He is famous for his fast-paced video game reviews. His most well-known series is Zero Punctuation. He made this show for The Escapist from 2007 to 2023. Now, he creates a new show called Fully Ramblomatic for Second Wind.

Yahtzee has also made many indie games. Some of these games were free, and others were sold. He has also written six novels that have been published.

Besides his creative work, Croshaw helped start the Mana Bar. This was a special bar in Australia where people could play video games. It opened in 2010 but closed by 2015.

Video Game Reviews

Discovering Zero Punctuation

Zero Punctuation was a popular video review series. Yahtzee Croshaw released a new episode every Wednesday. The show was on The Escapist website from 2007 to 2023. It started with a review of a game called The Darkness. People loved it right away!

After just one more review, The Escapist hired Yahtzee. His reviews were first posted on their website. A week later, they were put on The Escapist's YouTube channel. This series brought many visitors to the website. It became the most popular part of The Escapist. Each episode got hundreds of thousands of views. Some even got over a million!

What Made Zero Punctuation Unique?

Yahtzee became known for talking very fast. This is why the show was called "Zero Punctuation." He also gave strong opinions on games and the video game industry. His reviews often included silly drawings and jokes.

He even created the phrase "PC Master Race." This term became very common among PC gamers. Each review was about five minutes long. He never gave games a number score or rating.

Today, I formally resigned from The Escapist and Gamurs. I don't have the rights to Zero Punctuation, but whatever happens you'll be hearing my voice again soon, in a new place. Join this discord for updates in the coming days:

6 November 2023

On November 6, 2023, Yahtzee left The Escapist. Other co-workers also left that day. This happened after their editor-in-chief was fired. This event meant the end of the Zero Punctuation series.

Two days later, Yahtzee and his former editor announced something new. They created Second Wind. This is a new place where Yahtzee continues his weekly video reviews. The new series is called Fully Ramblomatic.

Making Video Games

Yahtzee Croshaw made his first public games in 1998. They were part of the Arthur Yahtzee series. He also wrote text-based adventure games. These included Offensive Probing and The Sorceror's Appraisal.

From 2000 to 2007, he made many free games. He used a tool called Adventure Game Studio. Some of these games were the Rob Blanc trilogy and the Chzo Mythos series. He also made Trilby: The Art of Theft.

These later games pushed the limits of the game-making tool. He used to charge for special versions of some games. But in 2009, he made all of them free. In 2010, some of his games were released for Linux computers.

In 2012, Yahtzee released a game called Poacher. It was inspired by Cave Story. He made Poacher using GameMaker Studio. He has used this tool for all his games since then.

In 2015, he released a mobile game called Hatfall. A reviewer from PC Magazine said it was "a funny little take on casual mobile games."

In November 2013, Yahtzee released a test version of The Consuming Shadow. This was a scary game with a roguelike style. The full game came out on July 30, 2015. A new version was released on Steam later that year.

In May 2019, Yahtzee started a new video series. It was called Dev Diary. In this series, he planned to make 12 free games in one year.

His newest game is Starstruck Vagabond. It was released on Steam on May 24, 2024. It got good reviews from some places.

Yahtzee draws all the art for his games himself. He uses MS Paint! This gives his games an old-school look, like games from Sierra Online. The music in many of his games is made by Mark Lovegrove.

Writing Books and Comics

In the early 2000s, Yahtzee Croshaw created several webcomics. These included Chris and Trilby and The Adventures of Angular Mike. He also put two books he hadn't published online. They were called Fog Juice and Articulate Jim.

Yahtzee also used to write for the Adventure Gamers website.

In 2010, his first published novel came out. It was called Mogworld. It was released by Dark Horse Books. A reviewer said that Yahtzee "undoubtedly has a strong, unique voice."

In 2012, an ebook version of Mogworld was released. It included a preview of his second novel, Jam. That book was published later that year.

In 2017, Yahtzee's third novel came out. It was a funny science fiction book called Will Save the Galaxy for Food. Its sequel, Will Destroy the Galaxy for Cash, was released as an audiobook in 2019. A printed version followed in 2020. The final book in this series, Will Leave the Galaxy for Good, came out in April 2024.

In 2018, his fourth novel, Differently Morphous, was released as an audiobook. A print version came out in 2019. A sequel to this book, called Existentially Challenged, was published in 2021.

Other Projects

Game Damage TV Show

Game Damage was a TV show about video games. Yahtzee Croshaw was going to be one of the stars. A test episode was released on YouTube in December 2008. A trailer for the first season came out in October 2009.

However, the show was never fully made. Yahtzee said that TV networks are often worried about shows about video games. This is because video games are a big competitor to TV.

The Mana Bar Gaming Lounge

Yahtzee Croshaw was one of four people who started the Mana Bar. This was a special place in Australia. It was a bar where people could get drinks and play video games. The first Mana Bar opened in Brisbane in 2010. A second one opened in Melbourne in 2011. Both locations had closed by May 2015.
