Yalup Brook is a small place in the South West of Western Australia. It used to be a town. You can find it along the South Western Highway. It is located between the towns of Waroona and Harvey. Yalup Brook was also on the main railway line that connects Perth to Bunbury.

The Story of Yalup Brook

Early Days and the Railway

The railway line that runs through this area opened in 1893. A train station was built there a few years later, in the late 1890s. In 1912, the government officially marked out a townsite. This was done to help the settlers who were moving into the area.

Why It Didn't Grow Much

Yalup Brook never really grew into a big town. This is because it is very close to other established towns. These nearby towns include Waroona and Wagerup. People often chose to live in those places instead.

Where the Name Comes From

The name of the town, Yalup Brook, comes from a small stream nearby. This stream has the same name. A surveyor first wrote down the name of the brook in 1889. On older maps, you might see the name Yorlup instead. This name was recorded even earlier, back in 1833.
