Club Career Highlights
After finishing high school, Konno started his professional football career. He joined J1 League team Consadole Sapporo in 2001. He played for Consadole for three seasons. He appeared in 65 league games. The team was moved down to the J2 League in 2003. Konno played one year in J2.
In 2004, he moved to FC Tokyo. He played over 250 league games for them over eight seasons. He helped FC Tokyo win the J.League Cup twice, in 2004 and 2009. In his last season with the club in 2011, they won the J2 League and the Emperor's Cup.
Konno then joined Gamba Osaka in 2012. His first season was tough as the team was moved down to Japan's second division. However, they quickly bounced back. They became champions of J2 League the very next year. Konno scored four goals in 32 games that season.
The year 2014 was even better for Gamba Osaka. They returned to Japan's top league and won three major trophies. They lifted the J1 League trophy, the J.League Cup, and the Emperor's Cup. Konno played 46 games and scored two goals. He often played in the middle of the field with Yasuhito Endō, another famous Japanese player.
Gamba Osaka won the Emperor's Cup again in 2015. They also won the 2015 Japanese Super Cup. They reached the semi-finals of the 2015 AFC Champions League, a big Asian club tournament. Konno played 51 games in 2015 and scored 6 goals.
Between 2016 and 2018, Gamba Osaka did not win any more trophies. However, Konno remained a key player. In 2016, he missed only one league game. He faced injuries in 2017 and 2018, which kept him off the field for some time. When he returned from injury in 2018, Gamba Osaka, under new coach Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, went on a nine-game winning streak. This helped them move up to a safe 9th place in the league.
In July 2019, Konno moved to Júbilo Iwata.
