Yasuyuki Kuwahara (桑原 楽之, Kuwahara Yasuyuki, December 22, 1942 – March 1, 2017) was a Japanese football player. He was a forward, which means he played at the front of the team to score goals. He also played for the Japan national team.

Club Career: Toyo Industries Star

Yasuyuki Kuwahara was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on December 22, 1942. After finishing university, he joined a football club called Toyo Industries in 1965. This club was in his hometown, Hiroshima.

His team, Toyo Industries, was super successful! They won the Japan Soccer League championship five times. These wins happened in 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1970. They were one of the best teams in Japan.

They also won the Emperor's Cup, another big football competition, in 1965, 1967, and 1969. This shows how strong the team was during those years.

Yasuyuki Kuwahara stopped playing football in 1972. During his time with Toyo Industries, he played in 94 league games. He scored an amazing 53 goals for his team.

National Team Career: Representing Japan

In December 1966, Yasuyuki Kuwahara was chosen to play for the Japan national football team. His first big tournament was the 1966 Asian Games in Thailand. On December 14, he played his very first game for Japan against Malaysia.

In 1968, he was selected to represent Japan at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. He played in two matches during the Olympics. Japan's team did incredibly well and won the Bronze Medal! This was a huge achievement for Japanese football.

The team from the 1968 Olympics was so special that in 2018, they were honored in the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This means they are remembered as some of the greatest players in Japanese football history.

Yasuyuki Kuwahara played a total of 12 games for the Japan national team. He scored 5 goals for his country before he stopped playing internationally in 1970.

Later Life

Yasuyuki Kuwahara passed away on March 1, 2017. He died from pneumonia in his hometown of Hiroshima. He was 74 years old.
