This parrot has a mostly olive-green color on its back, neck, and chest. Its beak is a light grey, and its eyes are brown. The legs are also grey.

Male yellow-breasted racket-tails have a blue color on the top of their heads. They also have a small red spot on their crown. Their tail feathers are green. The special part is the end of their two longest tail feathers. They have a round, flat part that looks like a tiny spoon or "racket."

Female birds have less blue on their heads and no red spot. Young birds look a lot like the females. They have even less blue on their heads.

Where Do Yellow-breasted Racket-tails Live?

The yellow-breasted racket-tail lives only in Indonesia. Its main home is on the northern part of Sulawesi island. It also lives on smaller islands nearby, like Bangka Island. You can also find them in the Togian Islands. These islands are located in the Gulf of Tomini.

How Do Yellow-breasted Racket-tails Behave?

The yellow-breasted racket-tail is a calm and quiet bird. You will often see them in pairs or small groups. These birds like to stay hidden. They usually stay high up in the tops of trees. They move carefully through the branches. This helps them avoid being seen by animals that might try to hunt them.

Why Are Yellow-breasted Racket-tails in Danger?

Like many other birds in Indonesia, the yellow-breasted racket-tail faces some big problems. One major threat is deforestation. This means that forests are being cut down. People cut down trees to make space for farms, especially for palm oil plantations. They also cut down forests for mining and logging.

Because of these threats, the yellow-breasted racket-tail is listed as a near-threatened species. This means it could become endangered if these problems continue. The IUCN Red List keeps track of species that are at risk.
