The yellow-streaked greenbul or yellow-streaked bulbul (Phyllastrephus flavostriatus) is a type of songbird. It belongs to the bulbul family, called Pycnonotidae. You can find this bird in eastern and south-eastern Africa. It loves to live in warm, wet forests and mountain forests.
About the Yellow-Streaked Greenbul
The yellow-streaked greenbul has a few different names. People also call it the yellow-streaked bulbul or yellow-bellied greenbul. This bird was first described in 1876 by a scientist named Richard Bowdler Sharpe.
Different Types of Yellow-Streaked Greenbuls
There are seven different types, or subspecies, of the yellow-streaked greenbul. They all look a bit similar but live in different places.
- P. f. graueri: This type lives in the highlands near big lakes in Africa. These lakes include Lake Albert, Lake Edward, and Lake Kivu. You can find it in the eastern and north-eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Kivu olive greenbul (P. f. olivaceogriseus): This greenbul lives in several mountain ranges. These are the Rwenzori Mountains, Itombwe Mountains, and Mt. Kabobo. It is found in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, western Uganda, western Rwanda, and northern Burundi.
- P. f. kungwensis: This type of greenbul lives in western Tanzania.
- P. f. uzungwensis: You can find this one in the Udzungwa Mountains in eastern Tanzania.
- P. f. tenuirostris: This greenbul lives in south-eastern Kenya, eastern Tanzania, and north-eastern Mozambique.
- P. f. vincenti: This type is found in south-eastern Malawi and western Mozambique.
- South African yellow-streaked greenbul (P. f. flavostriatus): This is the original type of yellow-streaked greenbul. It lives in eastern Zimbabwe, southern Mozambique, and eastern South Africa.
