Yellow Jacket's History
A post office opened in Yellow Jacket in 1914. The community got its name because there were many yellow jacket wasps living near where the town was first built.
Ancient Pueblo People Sites
Near Yellow Jacket, there are many old archaeological sites. These sites were once home to the Ancient Pueblo People (sometimes called Anasazi). They lived here during the Pueblo II Era and Pueblo III Eras. These important places are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties.
