Yellow Letters (in German, Gelbe Briefe) is a film from 2026. It is a story about important social issues, directed by İlker Çatak. He also helped write the script with Ayda Çatak and Enis Köstepen. The movie tells the story of Derya (Özgü Namal) and Aziz (Tansu Biçer), a married couple who are theater artists in Turkey. They face big challenges in their work because of government rules about what artists can show.
The film had its first showing at the main competition of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival on February 13, 2026. It was a big success there, winning the top prize, the Golden Bear. People in Germany will be able to see it in cinemas starting March 5, 2026.

How the Film Was Made
The film "Yellow Letters" was a big project. It was made by different companies working together from Germany, France, and Turkey. This is called an international co-production.
Getting the Project Started
In 2021, the film project received money to help with its development. This came from the German-Turkish Co-Production Development Fund. The project also took part in the Berlinale Co-Production Market in February 2022. This is a special event where filmmakers find partners and funding for their movies. More support came in November 2022 from MOIN Filmförderung. In November 2023, the project received a large grant from Eurimages to help with production.
Where the Filming Happened
The main filming for "Yellow Letters" took place in Hamburg and Berlin. These cities were used to represent Ankara and Istanbul in the movie. Filming finished in July 2024. A big scene with about 250 extra actors was also shot at the Berliner Ensemble Main Auditorium.
When and Where it Was Released
"Yellow Letters" had its first showing to the world at the Main Competition section of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2026. In February 2024, a company called Be For Films got the rights to sell the movie to other countries.
The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas across Germany by Alamode Film on March 5, 2026.
