The name Yettem has an interesting history. It was originally called Lovell. Later, local leaders like Hagop Hamalian, Ezekiel Kendigian, and Devlat Agha Moorsalian suggested new names to the Post Office Department. They offered Armenia, Ararat, and Yettem. The name Yettem was chosen. In Western Armenian, "Yettem" means "Eden". Even though many Armenian families have moved away, the St. Mary's Armenian Church in Yettem is still active today.
