Life of Yi Bok-nam
Becoming a Military Leader
Yi Bok-nam worked hard to become a military officer. In 1588, he passed a special test called the military examination (mugwa). This test was how people in Joseon Korea could become officers in the army or navy. After passing, he earned a high position called Byeongmajeoldosa for the Jeolla Province. This meant he was a top military commander in that area.
Important Battles
Yi Bok-nam is famous for his important victories in 1592. He led his forces to win battles at Battle of Woongchi and Ahndeokwon. These wins were very important during the Imjin War, showing his great skill as a commander.
His Death and Honors
Sadly, Yi Bok-nam was killed on April 18, 1597, during the Siege of Namwon. He was 43 years old when he died. Even after his death, the royal court honored him greatly. He was given the special title of Chungjanggong, which means "Loyal Duke of Brave." He was also recognized as a Seonmu Wonjong Gongsin for his service. He received two high offices after his death, including Jwachanseong, which was like a Left Vice Prime Minister.
