About Ylenia's Family

Ylenia Carrisi was born in Rome, Italy, on November 29, 1970. She was the first child of Albano Carrisi and Romina Power. Her mother's parents were American actor Tyrone Power and Mexican actress Linda Christian.

Ylenia's Life and Studies

In 1983, Ylenia appeared in a movie called Champagne in paradiso with her parents. Later, she worked on the Italian version of the TV show Wheel of Fortune. Ylenia had a dream of becoming a novelist. She studied literature at King's College London and achieved excellent grades there.

While studying, Ylenia thought about traveling the world by herself. She wanted to explore with just a backpack and her journal. She decided to take a break from her studies. Ylenia returned to Italy and sold her belongings to pay for her trip. She started her journey in South America.

After spending a few months in Belize, she left on December 26, 1993. She took a bus to New Orleans, Louisiana. Her brother, Yari, who also loved to travel, planned to surprise her for Christmas. He arrived in Hopkins, Belize, on December 27. Yari went door-to-door looking for her. He found out that she had already left for Mexico the day before.

Ylenia Carrisi was last seen in the French Quarter area of New Orleans. This was around January 6, 1994. Police tried to find her, but they did not have any success. At the time she disappeared, Ylenia was staying at the LeDale Hotel. She was with a street musician named Alexander Masakela.

A security guard later said he saw a woman jump into the Mississippi River. The woman looked a bit like Ylenia. He said she spoke the words "I belong in water." The Coast Guard searched the river. However, they did not find any sign of a body. It was never confirmed if the person seen was actually Ylenia. In 1996, someone called and claimed Ylenia was still alive. But her location remained unknown.

Ylenia's parents last spoke to her on New Year's Eve 1993. They reported her missing on January 18, 1994. Her mother, Romina Power, still believes Ylenia is alive. In November 2006, her father, Albano Carrisi, said he believed the security guard's story about the river jump. In January 2013, Albano asked for his daughter to be officially declared dead.

In June 2011, there was a report that Ylenia was living in a monastery in the United States. Her father said this report was "shameful speculation" and not true.
