Romina Power's Life Story
Early Life and Family
Romina Power is the oldest daughter of American actor Tyrone Power and Mexican actress Linda Christian. She was named after Rome, a city in Italy, because her parents fell in love there. Her middle name comes from a church in Rome where her parents got married.
Romina first lived in Los Angeles, California. After her parents divorced in 1956, Romina and her younger sister Taryn moved to Mexico to live with their grandmother. They later lived with their mother and her new husband for a short time. After that, they attended boarding schools in England, Switzerland, and Italy. Romina also lived in Rome with her mother.
Starting an Acting Career
Romina Power began trying out for movie roles when she was 12 years old. She first appeared on screen at age 14 in an Italian film called Menage all'italiana. She acted alongside famous stars like Ugo Tognazzi. Romina then appeared in several other films.
In 1970, Romina shared that she wished she had chosen different types of roles when she was younger. She felt that her mother had picked some roles for her that she later regretted.
Becoming a Music Star
In 1975, Romina and her husband Albano "Al Bano" Carrisi started a singing group called Al Bano and Romina Power. They became very popular in Europe and Latin America. They released many albums in different languages.
The duo represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1976 and 1985, both times finishing in 7th place. Some of their biggest hit songs include "Felicità", "Sharazan", and "Ci sarà".
Later Years and New Interests
In 2005, Romina Power was a judge on an Italian TV show called Ballando con le Stelle. From 2006 to 2007, she showed her paintings in art exhibitions, mostly in Milan, Italy. During this time, she also directed her own film called Upaya.
In 2007, Romina moved back to the United States and bought a house in Sedona, Arizona. She told the Italian press that she felt people in Italy mostly saw her as a singer of children's songs. She wanted to be known more as a painter and writer. Romina also said that the local news often wrote about her private life and the disappearance of her daughter Ylenia, which bothered her.
In 2008, Romina's mother, Linda Christian, was diagnosed with cancer. Romina moved to her mother's house in Palm Springs and stayed there until her mother passed away in 2011. In 2012, Romina released an album called Da lontano, which had songs she wrote in 1999. In 2013, Romina and Albano reunited for a concert in Moscow.
Personal Life and Family
When Romina Power was 15, Stanislas "Stash" Klossowski de Rola, the son of a painter, asked her to marry him. She said yes, and her mother agreed, but only if they waited until Romina was 18. Romina became friends with famous musicians like Paul McCartney and Syd Barrett through him. However, their wedding was later postponed.
In 1969, Romina announced her engagement to Albano Carrisi. They got married on July 26, 1970.
Romina and Albano separated in 1999, and their divorce was finalized in 2012. They have four children:
- Ylenia Maria Sole (born November 29, 1970) was their oldest daughter. She went missing in New Orleans, Louisiana, in January 1994. She was officially declared deceased in 2014.
