About Romina Power
Early Life
Romina Power was born in Los Angeles, California. She is the oldest daughter of the American actor Tyrone Power and Mexican actress Linda Christian. Her first name, Romina, comes from Rome, where her parents fell in love. Her middle name, Francesca, is from the church where they got married.
She lived in Los Angeles when she was very young. After her parents divorced in 1956, Romina and her younger sister Taryn moved to Mexico. They lived with their grandmother there. Later, they went to different boarding schools in England, Switzerland, and Italy. One of these schools was Cobham Hall School in England.
Starting Her Acting Career
Romina Power started trying out for movie roles when she was 12 years old. Her first movie was an Italian film called Menage all'italiana when she was 14. She acted alongside famous stars like Ugo Tognazzi.
In 1966, one of her roles in the movie How I Learned to Love Women caused some discussion in Italy. Despite some of the roles she played, Romina said she did not see herself in a certain way that people sometimes described her.
Becoming a Music Star
In 1975, Romina Power and her husband, Albano "Al Bano" Carrisi, started a singing group. They called themselves Al Bano and Romina Power. This duo became very popular in Europe and Latin America.
They released many albums in different languages. They even represented Italy twice in the Eurovision Song Contest. They came in 7th place in both the 1976 and 1985 contests. Some of their biggest hit songs include "Felicità", "Sharazan", and "Ci sarà".
Later Career and Interests
In 2005, Romina Power was a judge on an Italian TV show called Ballando con le Stelle. This show is similar to "Dancing with the Stars." She also started showing her paintings in art exhibitions, mostly in Milan. Around the same time, she directed her own film called Upaya.
In 2007, Romina moved back to the United States. She bought a house in Sedona, Arizona. She felt that in Italy, people mostly saw her as a singer of children's songs. She wanted to be known more as a painter and writer.
In 2008, her mother, Linda Christian, became ill. Romina moved to her mother's house in Palm Springs to take care of her. She stayed there until her mother passed away in 2011.
In 2012, Romina released an album called Da lontano. It included songs she had written many years before. In 2013, Romina and Al Bano reunited for a concert in Moscow. They also performed together again at the Sanremo Festival in 2015.
