Early Life and First Steps
Yoo Chae-yeong's birth name was Kim Soo-jin. She began her journey in entertainment very early. At just 17 years old, in 1989, she joined a music group called Punsudeul. This was while she was still attending high school.
Becoming a Star
In 1994, Kim Soo-jin started using the stage name Yoo Chae-yeong. She became one of the first members of a very popular K-pop group called Cool. She quickly caught everyone's attention. This was because she had a shaved head, which was a very bold and unusual hairstyle for female celebrities in South Korea at that time.
Yoo Chae-yeong left Cool after about a year. In 1995, she formed a music duo named US. She then started her solo singing career in 1996. Her hit song "Emotion," released in 1999, helped make techno music popular across the country.

Besides singing, Yoo Chae-yeong also showed her talent as an actress. She played many supporting roles in movies and television dramas. She was also a very popular radio host.
