The Yorkshire Sculpture Park (often called YSP) is a special place in West Bretton, England. It's like an art gallery, but with art both indoors and outdoors! You can see amazing sculptures by artists from all over the world, including famous British artists like Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. The park is huge, covering 500 acres (that's about 200 football fields!) of beautiful land that used to belong to Bretton Hall.

Discover the History of YSP

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park first opened its doors in 1977. It was the very first sculpture park in the UK! It was inspired by outdoor art shows held in London parks. YSP is unique because its art changes often, so there's always something new to see.

Explore the Exhibition Spaces

YSP has many different places where its amazing art collection is shown.

The Parkland: Art Outdoors

The park is set in the grounds of Bretton Hall. This was once a grand family home from the 1700s. Later, it became a college. You can still see old features from the 18th century around the park. These include a deer park, an ice house, and a camellia house. Artists who work at YSP often get ideas from the park's history or natural beauty. For example, Andy Goldsworthy created art here in 2007.

Since the 1990s, YSP has also used indoor spaces for art. These include the Bothy Gallery and the Pavilion Gallery. After some big updates, YSP added an underground gallery. There are also exhibition spaces at Longside, which is a hillside facing the main park. YSP shows both modern and contemporary sculptures. You might see works by famous artists like Rodin. Many British sculptors have had their art shown here, including Lynn Chadwick and Eduardo Paolozzi.

St Bartholomew's Chapel

There's an old chapel called St Bartholomew's Chapel, West Bretton in the park. It was built in 1744 and has been carefully restored. Now, this historic building is used as a gallery space for art.

Longside Gallery: Views and Art

Longside Gallery is another special place for sculptures. It has great views over the rest of YSP. This gallery also shares its space with the Arts Council Collection. This means they have different art shows throughout the year. When there isn't an exhibition, the Longside Gallery is used for fun educational activities and events.

The Weston: A New Hub

In 2019, a brand new building called The Weston opened. It has a gallery, a restaurant, and a shop. This building was even nominated for a special award called the Stirling Prize for its excellent design!
