Yoshiteru Yamashita (山下 芳輝, Yamashita Yoshiteru) is a former Japanese football player. He was born on November 21, 1977, in Fukuoka, Japan. Yamashita played as a forward for several clubs during his career. He also had the honor of playing for the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs

Yoshiteru Yamashita began his professional football career in 1996. After finishing high school, he joined Avispa Fukuoka, a team in Japan's top league, the J1 League. He played his very first professional game on March 16, 1996. Yamashita scored his first goal on April 27, 1996, against Kyoto Purple Sanga. He played in many matches during his first few seasons.

In 2001, Avispa Fukuoka moved down to the J2 League. Because of this, Yamashita decided to join Vegalta Sendai. However, Vegalta Sendai also moved down to J2 in 2003. After that, he moved to Kashiwa Reysol in 2004.

At Kashiwa Reysol, Yamashita did not get to play as much. In 2005, he also played for Omiya Ardija for a short time on loan. Later, he moved to Japan Football League clubs, first Tochigi SC in 2007, and then FC Ryukyu in 2008. Yoshiteru Yamashita officially retired from playing football at the end of the 2010 season.

Youth National Team

In June 1997, Yoshiteru Yamashita was chosen to play for the Japan U-20 national team. He took part in the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship, which is a big tournament for young players. He played in two matches during this championship.

Senior National Team

In 2001, Yamashita was selected to join the Japan national team. He played in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup, an important international tournament. His first game for the national team was on June 4, 2001, against Brazil. This match took place at Kashima Soccer Stadium.

Japan did very well in the 2001 Confederations Cup, finishing in 2nd place. Yamashita played a total of three matches for the Japan national team between 2001 and 2003. He did not score any goals for the national team during this time.
