About Young Roddy
Growing Up in Louisiana
Young Roddy was born and grew up in Kenner, Louisiana. This city is part of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. When he was younger, Roddy loved playing basketball. He dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the area. Roddy's mother moved to Texas after the storm. But Roddy decided to stay in New Orleans. He moved in with a friend who had a home music studio. This friend also made music beats.
Discovering His Talent
Living with his friend, Roddy started to freestyle with his friends. Freestyling means making up rap lyrics on the spot. His friends were really impressed by his skills. They encouraged him to keep rapping for them. Soon, they suggested he spend more time on music.
Even with this positive feedback, Roddy didn't see rap as a serious career. He enjoyed freestyling, but he wasn't recording songs. His cousin kept trying to get him to visit a recording studio. Roddy finally agreed when his cousin told him that Young Money artists would be there.
Meeting Curren$y
At the studio, Roddy met another rapper named Curren$y. Curren$y heard Roddy freestyle and was impressed. He asked Roddy to join a new music group he was forming. This was the start of their musical journey together.
Music Career
Starting Out (2007-Present)
Young Roddy began his music career in 2007. He appeared on two songs from Curren$y's mixtape, Life At 30,000 Feet. The songs were "Money Gone To My Head" and "Lysol." The next year, he joined Curren$y again on "Passport Sports." This song was from the mixtape Independence Day.
Roddy continued to work with Curren$y. He appeared on six more mixtapes that Curren$y released in 2008. He also featured on Curren$y's first studio album in 2009.
Joining Jet Life
Around this time, the music group called Jet Life was formed. This group included many talented artists. Some members were Young Roddy, Curren$y, and Trademark Da Skydiver. In March 2011, Young Roddy and Trademark Da Skydiver worked together. They released the mixtape Jet Life To The Next Life. This was the first project from members of the Jet Life group.
Later that year, Roddy appeared on Jet Life's first album, Jet World Order. In 2012, he was also on their second album, Jet World Order 2.
