Yukio Goto was born in Kobe, Japan. He played club football for a team called Kwangaku Club. This team was special because it was made up of players from his university, Kwansei Gakuin University, and its graduates.
While playing for Kwangaku Club, Yukio Goto helped his team win the Emperor's Cup twice. They won this important football tournament in 1929 and again in 1930.

Yukio Goto also had the honor of playing for his country, Japan. He was chosen for the national team in May 1930, while he was still a student at Kwansei Gakuin University.
