General Yun Chi-wang (윤치왕, 尹致旺) was an important figure in South Korea. He was born on February 16, 1895, and passed away on December 21, 1982. He had many roles in his life, including being a politician, a soldier, and a doctor who specialized in women's health.
Yun Chi-wang was part of a well-known family. He was the half-brother of Yun Chi-ho. He was also the uncle of Yun Posun, who later became the fourth president of South Korea. His cousin was Yun Chi-young. People sometimes called him by his nickname, Namppo, and his special courtesy name was Seongun.

Early Life and Education
Yun Chi-wang's father was Yun Ung-nyeol (1840–1911). His mother was Kim Jung-soon (1876–1959). He had an older half-brother, Yun Chi-ho, who was about 30 years older than him.
In 1911, Yun Chi-wang started studying at Suwan Agricultural High School. However, he left school in 1912. In 1913, he traveled to China to take part in activities that supported Korea's independence. The next year, in 1914, he followed the advice of Kim Kyu-sik and went to study at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
Career and Military Service
After his studies, Yun Chi-wang returned to Korea. From 1927 to 1944, he worked at Severance Hospital. He became the second Director of the hospital in 1938. He also led Korea's Maternity Society, which focused on the health of mothers and babies.
In 1948, he joined the South Korean Army. He served as a medical officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He took part in the Korean War in 1950, helping soldiers with medical care. In March 1959, he retired from the military as a lieutenant general. He fully retired in 1960.
