Yun Hyu (1617 – 1680) was an important scholar and government official in Korea. He lived during the Joseon Dynasty, a long period of Korean history. Yun Hyu was a follower of Neo-Confucianism, a way of thinking that shaped society. He was also a leader of a political group called the Southern (Namin) faction. His special pen names were Baekho, Haheon, and Yabo.

About Yun Hyu
Yun Hyu was a very smart person who studied a lot. He believed strongly in the ideas of Neo-Confucianism. This was a system of beliefs that focused on morality, ethics, and good government. Many scholars and officials in Joseon Korea followed these ideas.
Early Career and Studies
Yun Hyu started his career working for the government. He was given positions like Jipyeong and Yebinshijeong. These roles involved helping with government affairs and welcoming guests. However, Yun Hyu loved to study more than anything. He eventually left his government jobs to spend all his time on his scholarly work. He wanted to learn and write about important ideas.
Important Debates
Yun Hyu became well-known for his role in some big debates. These debates were about how long people should mourn, or show sadness, after a royal family member died.
In 1660, a debate happened about the mourning rituals for King Hyojong. Yun Hyu was a key figure in this discussion. Later, in 1674, another debate arose. This time, it was about the mourning period for Queen Inseon. Yun Hyu was again involved in this important discussion. These debates were very serious at the time. They showed the different ideas people had about tradition and rules.
Later Life
In 1680, Yun Hyu faced a difficult time. He was sent away from the capital city. He was exiled to a place called Gapsan. This meant he had to leave his home and live far away.
Yun Hyu's Writings
Yun Hyu wrote many books and essays during his life. His writings showed his deep understanding of Neo-Confucianism. They also showed his thoughts on government and society. Here are some of his important works:
