Zedelgem (pronounced ZAY-del-ghem) is a town located in the country of Belgium. It's part of the West Flanders province. Zedelgem is actually a group of smaller villages that form one big municipality. These villages are Aartrijke, Loppem, Veldegem, and Zedelgem itself.
As of January 1, 2019, about 22,813 people lived in Zedelgem. The total area of the municipality is about 60.34 square kilometers (23.30 square miles). This means there are about 378 people living in each square kilometer.
History of Zedelgem
Towards the end of World War II, Zedelgem and the area around it were home to a special camp. This camp was used to hold prisoners of war. These were soldiers captured during the war.
After the war ended, the camp was closed down. The prisoners were released and went home. Even though the camp was gone, the land stayed under military control until 1994. Today, this historical site has been turned into a beautiful nature park. It's a place where people can enjoy the outdoors.
