Zigby is a fun-loving zebra character. He acts like a human, even though he's an animal! He was created by Scottish-born English author Brian Paterson. You can find Zigby in a series of picture books and also in a cool 3D animated TV show.
Zigby lives in a tree house in a place called Mudwater Creek. This is on a beautiful tropical island. In his stories, Zigby is always excited and sometimes gets into funny situations because of his unique personality. He is usually joined by his best friends: McMeer the meerkat and Bertie Bird, an anxious guinea fowl. The TV show used to air on Treehouse TV, Playhouse Disney, and CBeebies. It was eventually stopped because not enough people were watching it.
Zigby Books: Adventures on Paper
Before the TV show, Zigby starred in many books. These picture books were made for younger kids, usually aged 2 to 5 years old. They were published by HarperCollins.
Here are some of the picture books:
- Zigby Camps Out (2002)
- Zigby Hunts for Treasure (2002)
- Zigby and the Ant Invaders (2003)
- Zigby Dives In (2003)
- Zigby and the Monster (2005)
In 2004, four board books were also released by the same publisher. These included "Go-Kart," "The Picnic," "The Birthday Party," and "Toy Box." By early 2005, over 350,000 copies of Zigby books had been sold in 15 different countries!
Zigby on TV: Animated Adventures
The idea for an animated TV series based on Zigby was first announced in 2005. This show became a 3D animated series with 52 episodes. Each episode was about 11 minutes long.
The show was a big project, made by companies from Australia, Singapore, and Canada working together. It was mainly made for kids aged 4 to 5, but a wider audience of 3 to 6-year-olds also enjoyed it. The series was shown on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (from March 25, 2009, to January 3, 2015) and on Canadian Treehouse TV. It was also bought by other channels around the world, like German ZDF, BBC's CBeebies, France 5, and Univision's Planeta U.
