Club Teams
Zoran Mirković started his professional football journey with FK Rad in the 1990–91 season. Before that, he and his teammates won a big youth title, which was a huge success for Rad. He played for Rad for three seasons, appearing in 62 matches and scoring one goal.
His talent quickly caught the eye of Partizan, one of Serbia's biggest clubs. Mirković joined Partizan and quickly became a key player. During his first three years there, he helped the team win several titles, including a "double" (winning both the league and cup) in 1993–94. He wore the number 2 shirt and was a favorite among Partizan fans. They loved his fighting spirit, especially in big matches against Red Star Belgrade. He played 82 matches for Partizan during this time, scoring one goal.
After his time in Serbia, Mirković moved to Italy to play for Atalanta. He got injured early on and had to take a three-month break. But when he returned, he played very well as a midfielder and defender. His strong performances even caught the attention of Juventus, another famous Italian club. Atalanta fans really liked him and helped convince the club not to sell him to another team.
Mirković's time at Juventus had two parts. Under coach Marcello Lippi, he played in many matches, including the UEFA Champions League. However, when a new coach, Carlo Ancelotti, took over, Mirković played less often, mostly in cup games.
In 2000, Mirković signed with Fenerbahçe in Turkey. In his first season, he helped them win the Turkish League title and reach the cup final. In his second season, he played in the Champions League. His third season was not as successful for the club.
In 2004, after a short break from football, Mirković returned to his beloved Partizan. He played for them for two more years. Sadly, on March 6, 2006, he announced his retirement from football at age 34 because of a back injury that kept bothering him.
Playing for His Country
Zoran Mirković was also a very important player for the national team of FR Yugoslavia/Serbia and Montenegro. He usually played as a right-back and wore the number 2 shirt. He played 59 matches for his country. His last international game was in June 2003, during a European Championship qualification match against Azerbaijan.
Life After Playing
Working in Football Management
After retiring from playing, Mirković stayed involved in football. On April 24, 2007, the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) made him the sporting director for the national team. This meant he was in charge of the main team and the under-21 team. However, he left this role in December 2007 because he felt he didn't work well with the FSS leaders.
Mirković was also chosen as the vice-president of Partizan on August 18, 2008. He held this position for about a year. He resigned after Partizan was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds early in 2009.
Coaching Career
Mirković started his coaching career as an assistant coach for Sinđelić Belgrade in 2015. He later became the head coach there from July to December 2015. In February 2016, he became an assistant coach for the Montenegrin national team, working with his former coach, Ljubiša Tumbaković.
On August 4, 2018, he became the head coach of Partizan. He coached the team until March 10, 2019, when he decided to resign after a loss to Voždovac.
