The Story of zpizza
How zpizza Started
zpizza was founded in Laguna Beach, California, in 1986. It was started by Suzy Megroz and Sid Fanarof. For a while, it was owned by Fanarof, Chris Bright, and Dan Rowe. They were the founders of a company called Fransmart.
In 2022, zpizza USA bought the company. Ron Osmena became the new CEO. Since then, many new zpizza stores have opened. Most of these are in California, especially in Orange County, Riverside County, the Bay Area, and Los Angeles Counties. You can also find new stores in the Phoenix area and Southeast Asia. zpizza started letting other people open their own zpizza restaurants (called franchising) in 2000.
Choosing the Name
When Suzy Megroz and Sid Fanarof first opened their restaurant in Laguna Beach, they called it "the pizza place." Suzy grew up in France, so she said the name with a French accent: "zee pizza place."
They had not picked an official name yet. Suzy's way of saying "zee pizza" gave them an idea. They decided to call it "z pizza." As the business grew, they removed the space, making it "zpizza." Sometimes, they still just call it "z."
