Zuhr prayer facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Zuhr prayer (pronounced "zhoor") is a special prayer that Muslims offer every day around midday. It's called Zuhr because it happens right in the middle of the day, between the Fajr (dawn) prayer and the Isha (night) prayer. This prayer is the second of the five daily prayers that Muslims perform.

What is the Zuhr Prayer?

Muslims pray five times a day. The Zuhr prayer is one of these important daily prayers, called salat. It helps Muslims remember Allah (God) and feel closer to Him throughout their day.

When Do Muslims Pray Zuhr?

The time for the Zuhr prayer starts after the sun has passed its highest point in the sky. It lasts until the time for the next prayer, Asr, begins. Muslims use special prayer times, often found in apps or calendars, to know exactly when to pray each day.

Friday Prayer: Jumu'ah

On Fridays, the Zuhr prayer is replaced by a special prayer called Jumu'ah. This prayer is very important for Muslim men, who are expected to attend it at a mosque. Women and children can attend, but they are not required to.

The Jumu'ah prayer includes a Khutbah, which is a speech. The leader of the mosque, called an Imam, gives this speech. The Khutbah usually teaches about Islamic values and current events.
