José Carlos Garcia Leal, known to many as Zé Carlos, is a talented Brazilian football player and coach. He was born on July 15, 1980, in Manga, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Zé Carlos played as a left back or a midfielder during his career. Today, he works as an assistant coach for Botafogo-PB.

Zé Carlos's Playing Career

Zé Carlos started his football journey in 1999 with Goiás. He played for their youth team before joining the main squad in 2000. He stayed with Goiás until 2002, playing in 46 games and scoring 5 goals.

Playing for Top Brazilian Clubs

In 2003, Zé Carlos moved to São Caetano. He played 34 games and scored 5 goals there. The next year, in 2004, he joined Corinthians, one of Brazil's biggest clubs. He played 15 games for Corinthians, scoring 2 goals.

Time in Japan

From 2005 to 2007, Zé Carlos played for Cerezo Osaka in Japan. This was a significant part of his career. He played 88 games for the club and scored 16 goals. He helped them in both the J1 League and J2 League.

Return to Brazil

After his time in Japan, Zé Carlos returned to Brazil. In 2008, he played for Botafogo, where he appeared in 24 games and scored 4 goals. He then had another spell with Goiás in 2009.

Zé Carlos has a passion for developing young talent. In 2017, he worked as an assistant coach for the Under-20 team at Goiás. He also coached the Under-17 team for Goiás. In 2023, he coached the Under-17 team for Carmópolis.

Assistant and Interim Coach Roles

Zé Carlos has held various assistant and interim coaching positions. From 2020 to 2021, he was an assistant coach for Confiança. He also served as their interim coach in 2021. In 2022, he was an assistant for Amazonas.

More recently, in 2023, he coached Atlético Alagoinhas and Itumbiara. He returned to Atlético Alagoinhas in 2024. He also coached Carmópolis in 2024. From 2024 to 2025, he was an assistant coach for CSA. As of 2025, he is an assistant coach for Botafogo-PB, and also served as their interim coach in 2025.
