Æthelric was an important figure in the early history of what is now northern England. He was part of a royal family that founded the Kingdom of Bernicia. This kingdom was one of the many smaller kingdoms that existed in Britain after the Romans left.
His Family and Kingdom
Æthelric was one of the many sons of Ida of Bernicia. Ida was a very famous king. He is known for starting the Kingdom of Bernicia. This kingdom was located in the northeastern part of England. It was a strong Anglo-Saxon kingdom.
Important Times During His Rule
During Æthelric's time as king, the people of Bernicia were often in conflict. They fought against the native Britons. These were the people who lived in Britain before the Anglo-Saxons arrived.
