Óscar Engonga Maté is a former Spanish football player and manager. He was born on September 12, 1968. He played as a midfielder, which is a key position in the middle of the football field.

Óscar Engonga's Football Journey

Óscar Engonga was born in Torrelavega, a town in Cantabria, Spain. He spent most of his playing career in Spain's lower football leagues. These are divisions below the top league. He did play in three matches in La Liga, which is Spain's highest football league. One match was for Real Valladolid and two were for Racing de Santander. He stopped playing football in 1999 when he was 30 years old.

From Player to Coach

After retiring as a player, Engonga started coaching. He briefly managed the Equatorial Guinea national football team. Some of his former teammates from Spain, like Rodolfo Bodipo and Benjamín Zarandona, played on this team. Later, he worked as a technical assistant. He helped his older brother, Vicente Engonga, when Vicente was in charge of the national team.

Engonga's Football Family

Óscar Engonga comes from a family deeply involved in football. His father, also named Vicente, was a footballer too. He moved from Equatorial Guinea to Torrelavega in 1958. He played for Gimnástica de Torrelavega and other teams in the area.

Brothers and Sons in Football

Óscar was the youngest of four brothers, and all of them played football. His most famous brother is Vicente Engonga. Vicente even played for the Spain national football team in the UEFA Euro 2000 tournament. Óscar and Vicente played together at Gimnástica. Their other brothers, Julio and Rafael, also played there. Óscar and Vicente also played together for Valladolid during the 1991–92 La Liga season.

Óscar's son, Igor Engonga, also became a football player. Igor was born in Santa Cruz de La Palma when Óscar was playing for CD Mensajero there. Igor has played for Equatorial Guinea's national team at both the under-16 and senior levels.
