ʻEwa Villages is a community in Hawaii. It's located on the island of Oʻahu, about 20 miles from downtown Honolulu. This area is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a specific area the U.S. Census Bureau defines for gathering population data. In 2020, about 7,825 people lived here.
The name ʻEwa comes from the Hawaiian word for "crooked." Long ago, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, ʻEwa was a busy place. It was known for growing sugar cane. The ʻEwa Mill was a big sugar factory that created homes for its workers. These homes grew into the villages we know today.
Today, sugar cane is no longer grown in ʻEwa. Instead, it's a growing suburban area. It connects to other towns like ʻEwa Gentry, ʻEwa Beach, Kalaeloa, and Kapolei. This whole region is often called Oʻahu's "Second City," with Kapolei as its main center.
There's also a place called Honouliuli nearby. It used to be a village and is now a name for the northern part of ʻEwa. It's located along Honouliuli Stream, between ʻEwa Villages and Waipahu. The postal code for ʻEwa Villages is 96706, which is the same as ʻEwa Beach.

Another important road is Renton Road. It runs east-west and connects to Kalaeloa and Kapolei to the west. Soon, Kapolei Parkway will become the main east-west road for this "Second City" area.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that ʻEwa Villages covers about 1.13 square miles (2.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Understanding Direction in Oʻahu
On Oʻahu, the word "ʻEwa" is also used to describe a direction. If you're in Honolulu, saying something is "ʻEwa" means it's to the west. The opposite direction is "Diamond Head" (which is east of Waikīkī) or "Koko Head" (even further east of downtown Honolulu).
Historical Site: Honouliuli Internment Camp
From 1943 to 1945, during World War II, a place called Honouliuli Internment Camp was located here. It was a site where people were held during that time.
