Álvaro de Lacalle Leloup (born October 29, 1918 – died September 1, 2004) was an important military officer from Spain. He held a very high position in the Spanish Armed Forces. From 1982 to 1984, he was the President of the Board of Joint Chiefs of Staff. This means he was the top leader of the military staff in Spain at that time.

He took part in two major wars during his life. He fought in the Spanish Civil War and later in World War II.

Early Life and Military Career

Álvaro de Lacalle Leloup was born in Haro, a town in Spain, on October 29, 1918. From a young age, he chose a career in the military. He rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant general, which is a very senior military rank.

The Spanish Civil War

During the Spanish Civil War, which took place in Spain from 1936 to 1939, Lacalle was a soldier. He fought for the Nationalist side. This was a difficult time in Spanish history, with different groups fighting for control of the country.

World War II and the Blue Division

Later, during World War II, Lacalle volunteered to join a special group. This group was known as the Blue Division (or División Azul in Spanish). These were Spanish volunteers who went to fight alongside Germany. They were sent to the Eastern Front, which was a major battle area in Eastern Europe. There, they fought against the Soviet Union.

Leading the Spanish Military

After these wars, Álvaro de Lacalle Leloup continued his military service. He eventually reached the highest levels of leadership.
