Ángel Aristedes Chávez, born on July 22, 1981, is a professional baseball player from Panama. He plays as an infielder, which means he plays positions like shortstop or second base. Ángel made his first appearance in Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2005 with the San Francisco Giants.
Before playing in the MLB, he spent many years in the minor leagues. In those games, he had a batting average of .269. He also hit 74 home runs and helped his team score 478 runs (called RBIs). Playing for the San Francisco Giants
In 2005, Chávez had a great year playing in the minor leagues. Because of his good performance, the San Francisco Giants called him up to the major league team on August 30. He made his big league debut that same night. He played shortstop because the regular player, Omar Vizquel, was not able to play.
Ángel played in 10 games for the Giants, starting in 4 of them. He played shortstop in 3 games and second base in 1 game. He got 5 hits in 19 chances, which is a batting average of .263. Even though he missed the last two weeks of the minor league season, he still had 83 RBIs. This was his highest number of RBIs in his career. He also hit 16 home runs that year.
Time with the New York Yankees
In January 2007, the New York Yankees invited Chávez to their spring training. This is where players practice before the season starts. However, he did not make the main team. He spent the season playing for the Yankees' Triple-A team, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. He played in 114 games for them. He had a batting average of .291 and helped score 66 runs.
Joining the Los Angeles Dodgers
On December 12, 2007, Chávez signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was also invited to their spring training. He was on the Dodgers' main roster at the start of the 2008 season. However, he did not play in any games for them before being moved to another team.
He then played for the Dodgers' Triple-A team, the Las Vegas 51s. After the season ended, he became a free agent. This means he was free to sign with any team.
Playing for the Boston Red Sox
