Ángelo José Henríquez Iturra, born on April 13, 1994, is a professional footballer from Chile. He plays as a forward for Super League Greece club Lamia.

Ángelo started his career at Universidad de Chile. Later, in 2012, he moved to the famous English club Manchester United. He also played on loan for teams like Wigan Athletic, Real Zaragoza, and Dinamo Zagreb. In July 2015, he joined Dinamo Zagreb permanently.

Since 2012, Ángelo has also played for the Chilean national team. He was part of the team that won the 2015 Copa América, a big football tournament.

Club Career

Starting His Football Journey

Ángelo Henríquez began his football journey with Universidad de Chile in 2007. He was 13 years old at the time. Before football, he played tennis until he was 12. In 2009, he had a trial with Manchester United. Manchester United bought the rights to sign him later.

Playing for Universidad de Chile

On June 27, 2011, Henríquez played his first professional match for Universidad de Chile. It was a Copa Chile game, which his team won 1–0. Even though he didn't play much in the second half of that year, he was part of the team that won the Clausura Tournament and the Copa Sudamericana.

In 2012, Ángelo became a key player for his team. On February 22, he scored in his first international club game. This was during the Copa Libertadores, where Universidad de Chile won 5–1. A few days later, he scored two goals in a league match, helping his team win 4–1.

Time at Manchester United

On August 21, 2012, Manchester United announced that Ángelo Henríquez could officially play for them. He was given the number 21 shirt. He scored in his first game for Manchester United's under-21 team.

Loan to Wigan Athletic

On January 2, 2013, Henríquez joined Wigan Athletic on loan. He made his debut in English football in an FA Cup game on January 5. Two weeks later, he played his first Premier League match and scored his first goal for Wigan. He was also part of the team that won the FA Cup Final in 2013, though he didn't play in the final match.

Loan to Real Zaragoza

After returning to Manchester United, Henríquez went on loan to Real Zaragoza in Spain for the 2013–14 season. He made his debut in the Segunda División (Spanish second division) on August 31. He scored his first goal for Zaragoza on September 21. Overall, he scored six goals in 25 matches for the club.

Playing for Dinamo Zagreb

First Loan Period

On August 11, 2014, Henríquez joined Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia on loan. He quickly made his debut and scored his first goal for the club on August 31. He had a fantastic season, scoring three hat-tricks (three goals in one game) against different teams. He ended the season with 29 goals in 37 games across all competitions.

Permanent Move to Dinamo Zagreb

Because of his great performance, Dinamo Zagreb signed Henríquez permanently on July 6, 2015. He continued to score important goals for the club, including one in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.

Other Clubs

After his time in Croatia, Ángelo moved to Atlas, a Mexican club, in December 2017.

In the second half of 2018, he returned to his first club, Universidad de Chile. He played there until mid-2021.

Later in 2021, he joined Fortaleza, a Brazilian club.

In June 2022, Henríquez moved to Poland to play for Miedź Legnica, a team that had just been promoted to the top league.

On July 12, 2023, he signed a two-year contract with Baltika Kaliningrad in the Russian Premier League. He left Baltika in June 2024.

On September 6, 2024, Henríquez joined Lamia, a Greek club.

International Career

Ángelo Henríquez has played for Chile's youth national teams for many years. He played in the 2009 South American Under-15 Championship, scoring two goals. He also played in the 2010 South American Games and the 2011 South American Under-17 Championship, where he scored against several teams.

He made his debut for the senior Chile national team on November 14, 2012. He came on as a substitute and scored Chile's only goal in a friendly match against Serbia. In his next game, on August 14, 2013, he scored again in a 6–0 friendly win against Iraq.

In May 2015, Henríquez was chosen to be part of Chile's squad for the 2015 Copa América. He played in the final group game against Bolivia, helping his team win 5–0. In the final match against Argentina, he came on during extra time. Chile won the tournament in a penalty shoot-out, marking their first major international trophy.

Personal Life

Ángelo is the younger brother of César Henríquez, who was also a footballer and played for Universidad de Chile.
