Åmål Municipality (Åmåls kommun) is a local area in western Sweden. It's part of Västra Götaland County. The main town, or "seat," of the municipality is called Åmål.

This municipality was formed in 1971. It brought together the old City of Åmål and the rural area of Tössbo.

Exploring Åmål's Nature and Places

The city of Åmål is located on a beautiful bay. This bay is part of Lake Vänern, which is the largest lake in Sweden.

Islands and Wildlife

The municipality has a small group of islands. There are about 30 islands in total, known as Tösse skärgård. These islands are south of the city. They are protected as a nature preserve, which means they are kept safe for nature. Many islands have forests, but some are used for farming.

These islands are home to many different bird species. You might see grey herons, ospreys, and mallard ducks in the bays. On the rocky shores, there are colonies of herring gulls and common terns. On the islands covered with fir trees, you can find capercaillie and woodpeckers.
