Ülker started a long time ago, in 1944. It was founded by two brothers, Sabri and Asim Ülker. Their parents had moved to Turkey from Crimea.

The company began as a small bakery in Istanbul. Just four years later, in 1948, they opened their first factory.

Growing the Business

In the 1970s, Ülker started to grow a lot. They began selling their products to countries in the Middle East. They also started making chocolates and improving their packaging.

By the end of the 1900s, Ülker was making even more products. These included margarine, cooking oil, and dairy items like milk and yogurt.

In 2002, Ülker added fizzy drinks to its product list. The next year, in 2003, they started making Turkish coffee, ice cream, and even baby food.

Cola Turka Launch

In 2003, Ülker launched a soda called Cola Turka. This drink was made to compete with popular sodas like Coca-Cola. A famous actor, Chevy Chase, even appeared in an advertisement for Cola Turka. Some local reports said that Coca-Cola lowered its prices by 10% because Cola Turka was so popular. However, Ülker sold its drinks business in 2015.

Ülker is part of a bigger company called Yıldız Holding. In 2001, Yıldız Holding had over 41,000 employees. It was one of the most successful manufacturers in Turkey. Ülker's sales around the world reached $1.5 billion.
