1095 Avenue of the Americas is a very tall building, called a skyscraper, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It stands about 630 feet (192 meters) high. This impressive building has 41 floors.
It was built between 1972 and 1974. The building was first used as the main office for New York Telephone. Later, it also became the headquarters for other phone companies like NYNEX and Bell Atlantic. The company Kahn & Jacobs designed this huge tower. It is currently the 98th tallest building in New York City. The outside of the building was made to look like parts found inside old telephones.

Building History
Early Years and Upgrades
From 2006 to 2007, the building got a big makeover. About $260 million was spent to make the office spaces much better. They went from good (Class B+) to excellent (Class A).
The main phone company, Verizon, moved its main office out of this building in the early 2000s. They went to a different building called the Verizon Building. However, Verizon kept some floors (6 to 12) in 1095 Avenue of the Americas. They used these floors for offices and a special phone center for Midtown Manhattan.
In 2013, Verizon decided to move its main office back to 1095 Avenue of the Americas. This happened after they sold the top floors of the Verizon Building.
New Owners and Investments
In 2015, two companies, Ivanhoé Cambridge and Callahan Capital Properties, bought 1095 Avenue of the Americas. They bought it from a group called The Blackstone Group for $2.2 billion. This was the most expensive sale of a single office building in New York City since 2008.
In August 2016, another company, Real Summit Investment, bought a part of the building. They paid $1.15 billion for 49% of the building. This company is part of a big financial group from Hong Kong.
Who Works Here?
Main Companies and Stores
Many different companies have offices in 1095 Avenue of the Americas. Besides Verizon, some other big companies include the insurance company MetLife. You can even see the MetLife name outside the building's entrance.
Other businesses here are the law firm Dechert LLP and financial companies like iStar Financial. Lloyds Banking Group, Instinet, Standard Chartered USA, and Stifel also have offices.
In 2013, Whole Foods Market made a deal to open a large store here. Their store is about 32,000 square feet and covers the first and second floors. This market opened its doors in January 2017. Other stores at the bottom of the building include Pandora Jewelry, Tourneau, and Equinox Fitness.
Recent Additions and Changes
In 2016, a big tech company called Salesforce.com signed a deal. They decided to rename the building "Salesforce Tower." Salesforce plans to use five floors in the building. The first Salesforce employees in New York City moved into their new offices on November 14, 2016.
More companies have moved in since then. U.S. Bancorp rented about 68,000 square feet in September 2016. Apollo Global Management followed in July 2017, renting about 70,000 square feet. In January 2019, Lloyds Bank leased about 35,000 square feet. This means that 96% of the building's space is now being used.
