The 1600 Pacific Tower is a tall building, also known as the LTV Tower. It is located in the City Center District of Dallas, Texas, USA. This impressive skyscraper stands 434 feet (132 meters) high. It has 33 floors inside.

When it first opened, the building was used for offices. Today, it has a hotel and apartments. It is the 29th-tallest building in Dallas. The tower is right next to Thanks-Giving Square.

Building History

The 1600 Pacific Tower was designed in 1961. The architects were Harwood K. Smith and Dales Young Foster. It opened its doors in 1964. At that time, it was the fifth tallest building in Dallas.

What Was Inside?

The second and third floors of the building were used for banking. This was for the National Bank of Commerce. The upper 28 floors were for offices. Big companies like LTV (Ling-Temco-Vought) had their main offices there.

There were also two levels of parking located underground.

Cool Features

The ground floor had a special walkway. It was made of marble and granite. This walkway connected Elm Street and Pacific Avenue. It was open all day and night for people to use.

The building also had a clever "Teller-Vision" system. This allowed bank customers to do their banking from their cars. They could talk to a teller using a closed-circuit TV!

The roof of the first three floors had terraces and gardens. The very top floor of the building had a private club called the Lancers Club.

The Giant Sign

The outside of the building was covered with dark glass. It had aluminum strips too. It also featured the world's largest electronic sign! There were 30 windows on 25 floors. Each window could be controlled separately. This allowed them to spell out different messages.

The sign often spelled out "LTV." It even showed a picture of Big Tex in lights during the State Fair.

Building Changes

Over the years, the building changed owners several times. People wanted to turn it into homes. But, due to money problems, these plans did not happen right away.

In 2010, work began to update the building. It was going to be called The Grand Ricchi. The plan was to make it into homes and offices.

A new plan was announced in 2014. This plan was to turn the building into two parts. It would become a Hilton Garden Inn hotel and apartments. The hotel lobby would be on the first floor. Parking would be on floors 2 to 4. The hotel rooms would be on floors 5 to 14. The apartments would be on floors 15 to 32.

The apartments started to welcome residents in July 2015. The hotel opened its doors in September 2015.
