Dallas is the third-largest city in Texas. It has many tall buildings, called skyscrapers. There are 42 buildings over 350 feet (107 meters) tall. Twenty of these are even taller than 492 feet (150 meters)!

The tallest building in Dallas is the Bank of America Plaza. It stands 921 feet (281 meters) high in Downtown Dallas. It was finished in 1985. This building is also the 3rd tallest in Texas and the 40th tallest in the whole United States.

The second tallest skyscraper is the Renaissance Tower. It reaches 886 feet (270 meters) and was completed in 1974. The Comerica Bank Tower is the third tallest. It was finished in 1987 and is 787 feet (240 meters) tall. Dallas is home to three of the ten tallest buildings in Texas.

The first skyscraper in Dallas was the Praetorian Building, built in 1909. It was 184 feet (56 meters) tall with 14 floors. Many people think it was the first skyscraper in the entire Western United States! Sadly, it was taken down in 2013.

Dallas's first building taller than 492 feet (150 meters) was the Mercantile National Bank Building. It was completed in 1943. During the 1980s, Dallas built many skyscrapers because of an energy boom.

As of 2017, four new buildings over 350 feet (107 meters) were being built. The Dallas skyline is ranked 3rd in the Southern United States for tall buildings. It is 9th in the entire United States.
