The year 193 AD was a very important time for the Roman Empire. It is often called the Year of the Five Emperors. This is because five different people claimed to be the Roman Emperor during this single year! It was a time of great change and power struggles.

A New Emperor: Pertinax
- On January 1, a man named Pertinax became the new Roman Emperor. He was chosen after the previous emperor died.
- Pertinax only ruled for a short time. After just 87 days, he was killed in his palace. This opened the door for new people to try and become emperor.
The Rise of Didius Julianus
- After Pertinax, another person named Didius Julianus claimed the title of Roman Emperor.
- But his rule was also very short. On June 1, Didius Julianus was killed in his palace. This happened because other powerful leaders wanted to take control.
Septimius Severus Takes Control
- After these quick changes, a strong general named Septimius Severus began to gain power. He was one of the main people fighting to become emperor.
- Septimius Severus worked to defeat his rivals, including Pescennius Niger and Didius Julianus.
- Eventually, Septimius Severus managed to take full control of the Roman Empire. He became the new, powerful emperor.
- However, another person named Clodius Albinus also claimed the Empire for a while, showing how much competition there was.

- In China, the year 193 AD was the fourth and final year of the Chuping era. This was part of the long history of the Han Dynasty.
