During this season, storms like Hurricane Celia caused a lot of damage and led to 20 deaths. Another storm, Tropical Storm Dorothy, caused 51 deaths, mostly in Martinique.

The 1970 Atlantic hurricane season was a busy time for storms. It officially ran from June 1 to November 30. This is the period when most tropical storms and hurricanes form in the Atlantic.
Key Storms and Their Impact
During this season, ten named storms formed. Two of these grew into major hurricanes. A major hurricane is a very strong storm, rated Category 3 or higher on the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale.
- Hurricane Alma: This was the first hurricane of the season. It formed in May and reached Category 1 strength.
- Tropical Storm Becky: Becky was a tropical storm in July.
- Hurricane Celia: Celia was the strongest storm of 1970. It reached Category 3 strength. Celia caused a lot of damage, especially in Texas, USA. It was responsible for 20 deaths.
- Tropical Storm Dorothy: Dorothy caused a lot of rain and flooding. Most of the 51 deaths from this storm happened in Martinique.
- Hurricane Ella: Ella was another major hurricane, reaching Category 3.
- Tropical Storm Felice: Felice was a tropical storm in September.
- Tropical Storm Greta: Greta also formed in September.

Retired Names
