Retired Storm Names
Sometimes, if a hurricane causes a lot of damage or loss of life, its name is "retired." This means the name will not be used again for future storms. This is done to honor the victims and prevent the name from being associated with another event. In the spring of 1986, the names Elena and Gloria were retired. They were replaced by Erika and Grace in the 1991 season.
