The 2011–12 NHL season was an exciting time for ice hockey fans! It was the 95th season for the National Hockey League (NHL), which is a major professional ice hockey league in North America. Thirty different teams played against each other in this season.

The regular season had 82 games for each team. It started on October 6, 2011, and ended on April 7, 2012. After the regular games, the best teams moved on to the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs. These playoffs began on April 11, 2012. In the end, the Los Angeles Kings won the famous Stanley Cup trophy!

Regular Season Fun

During the regular season, all 30 teams played 82 games each. These games helped decide which teams would get a chance to play for the Stanley Cup. Teams earned points for winning games, and the teams with the most points moved on to the playoffs. The Vancouver Canucks won the Presidents' Trophy for having the best record in the regular season.

Exciting Playoff Games

The 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs were a series of intense games. Teams battled it out in best-of-seven series. This means a team had to win four games to move on to the next round. The playoffs are known for their high energy and dramatic finishes.

The Stanley Cup Champions

The final series was for the Stanley Cup. It was played between the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils. The Kings played incredibly well and won the championship. Their goalie, Jonathan Quick, was named the most valuable player of the playoffs. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy for his amazing performance.

A Team Moves Home

Before the season started, something big happened. The Atlanta Thrashers team moved to a new city. They relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada. There, they became a brand new team called the Winnipeg Jets. This was an exciting change for hockey fans in Winnipeg!
