Thirty teams battled it out on the ice. Each team played 48 games during the regular season. This season started later than usual, on January 19, 2013. It ended on April 28, 2013.
A Delayed Start to the Season
The hockey season usually begins in October. However, the 2012–13 season was delayed. This happened because of a disagreement between the league and the players. This kind of work stoppage is called a lockout.
The lockout meant that games could not start on time. Everyone was excited when the season finally began in January.
The Road to the Stanley Cup
After the regular games, the playoffs began. This is where the best teams compete for the championship. The playoffs started on April 30, 2013.
The Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins made it to the finals. They played a thrilling series for the Stanley Cup. The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup on June 24, 2013. They beat the Bruins in six exciting games.
