4Minute (Korean: 포미닛) was a popular five-member South Korean K-pop girl group. The group was formed by Cube Entertainment. Their music was also released in Japan by Far Eastern Tribe Records, which is part of Universal Music Japan.
The members of 4Minute were Nam Ji-hyun, Heo Ga-yoon, Jeon Ji-yoon, Kim Hyun-ah, and Kwon So-hyun. Their fans were called 4Nia, which is a mix of "4Minute" and "mania."
4Minute first appeared on stage on June 18, 2009. They debuted with their song "Hot Issue" on a TV show called M! Countdown. The group's name, "4Minute," has two cool meanings. One idea is that each member would grab the audience's attention in just four minutes. This is why many of their songs are shorter than four minutes! The other meaning is that they promised to always do their very best, every single minute.
Before joining 4Minute, some members already had experience in music. Kim Hyun-ah had released two songs on her own and was even a member of another famous group called Wonder Girls. Kwon So-hyun was also part of a girl group named Orange. Each member brought unique talents to 4Minute. For example, Nam Ji-hyun was known for her dancing, and Heo Ga-yoon was great at singing.
Over the years, 4Minute released a lot of music. In 2010, they put out their first Japanese album, called Diamond. In 2011, they released their first full-length Korean album, 4Minutes Left. This album included the hit song "Mirror Mirror." They continued to release popular mini-albums and songs like "Volume Up" and "What's Your Name."
The group also won several awards for their music. They received the Bonsang Award at the 20th Seoul Music Awards. They also won the Kpop New Artist Award at the 2010 Billboard Japan Music Awards.
Sadly, the group officially broke up in 2016. This happened after four of the five members decided to leave Cube Entertainment.
