History
The club was first started way back in 1922, but it was called Old Wulfrunians Football Club. They played in a local league called the Birmingham Amateur Football Alliance. The team was very successful, winning the top division, called the Premier Division, many times over the years.
Between 2002 and 2005, the club was on a winning streak. They won both the Premier Division title and the Senior Cup for three years in a row! This success led them to create a new team to play in a higher level of football. This new team was named A.F.C. Wulfrunians.
Climbing the Leagues
In their very first season (2005–06), A.F.C. Wulfrunians won their division in the West Midlands (Regional) League. This victory meant they were promoted, or moved up, to a higher division. The next season, they finished as runners-up and were promoted again, this time to the Premier Division.
The team won the Premier Division title in the 2008–09 season. However, they couldn't get promoted to the next league, the Midland Alliance. This was because their home ground wasn't up to the standards required for that league.
After moving to a new stadium, the club won the Premier Division again in the 2012–13 season. This time, their ground was ready, and they were promoted to the Midland Alliance.
Recent Success and a New Name
In 2014, the Midland Alliance joined with another league to become the Midland League. A.F.C. Wulfrunians were placed in its Premier Division. During the 2024–25 season, the team won the League Cup.
In the summer of 2025, the club changed its name. A.F.C. Wulfrunians became A.F.C. Wolverhampton City.
Home Ground
The club's original team, Old Wulfrunians, played at the Memorial Ground. But when A.F.C. Wulfrunians was formed, this ground wasn't ready for the higher leagues. So, the new team had to play at another team's stadium for a while.
Because they couldn't get promoted in 2009 due to their ground, the club moved to the Castlecroft Stadium. This stadium was built in the 1950s by the famous Wolverhampton Wanderers as their training ground. A.F.C. Wolverhampton City now holds the lease for the stadium, making it their official home.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers Women's team also plays their home games at Castlecroft Stadium.
