Lilly Saini Singh (born September 26, 1988) is a Canadian YouTuber, TV host, comedian, and author. She started making YouTube videos in 2010. At first, she was known by the name Superwoman (or IISuperwomanII), which was her YouTube username until 2019.
Lilly Singh released a documentary called A Trip to Unicorn Island in 2016. Her first book, How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life (2017), became a best-seller on the New York Times list. From 2019 to 2021, Singh was the host and executive producer of the NBC late-night talk show A Little Late with Lilly Singh. She was the first person of Indian descent to host an American late-night talk show.

Early Life and Education
Lilly Singh was born and grew up in Scarborough, a part of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her parents, Malvindar Kaur and Sukvindar Singh, came from Punjab, India. They raised her in the Sikh faith. Her older sister, Tina, also makes YouTube videos about her family.
Lilly went to Mary Shadd Public School. She graduated from Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute in 2006. She was also part of Girl Guides of Canada. In 2010, she earned a degree in psychology from York University in Toronto.
Career Journey and YouTube Success
Starting Out on YouTube (2010–2014)
In October 2010, Lilly Singh began her YouTube channel as "IISuperwomanII". She chose the name Superwoman because she believed she could do anything. At first, she planned to go to graduate school. But she decided to try making YouTube videos instead. She thought she would go back to school if YouTube didn't work out.
In December 2011, Singh started a second channel called "SuperwomanVlogs". It is now called "Lilly Singh Vlogs". On this channel, she shares her daily life and behind-the-scenes moments. When she reached 100,000 subscribers in 2012, YouTube allowed her to earn money from her videos. This made her take her YouTube career more seriously.
In 2011, Singh was a background dancer in the movies Speedy Singhs and Thank You. In 2013, she was featured in the Punjabi song Hipshaker by Jassi Sidhu. She also rapped in the song Mauj Ki Malharein for the Bollywood movie Gulaab Gang in 2014. That same year, she released a song called #LEH with her friend, Humble the Poet. Singh also had a small role in the Canadian movie Dr. Cabbie in 2014.
Lilly Singh was recognized for her work early on. She was nominated for a Shorty Award and a Streamy Award in 2014. Forbes magazine listed her among the world's top-earning YouTube stars. She was 8th in 2015, 3rd in 2016 (earning $7.5 million), and 10th in 2018 (earning $10.5 million).
Growing Her Career (2015–2018)
In February 2015, she released another music video called The Clean Up Anthem with artist Sickick. In March 2015, Singh started a world tour called "A Trip to Unicorn Island". She performed her YouTube content live, including singing, dancing, comedy, and her famous parent characters. The tour went to many countries, including India, Australia, and the United States.
She made a movie about her tour, also called A Trip to Unicorn Island. The movie shows how being famous on YouTube affected her life. It was released on YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium) in February 2016. Singh described the film as very real and honest.
In April 2015, Singh released a song about her hometown, Toronto, with Humble the Poet. It was called #IVIVI. Lilly won her first MTV Fandom Award and a Streamy Award that year. In December 2015, she moved to Los Angeles to help her career grow even more. In July 2016, she won two Teen Choice Awards.
In 2016, she lent her voice to characters named Bubbles and Misty in the animated movie Ice Age: Collision Course. She also had a small role in the film Bad Moms. In January 2017, she won a People's Choice Award for "Favorite YouTube Star". In September 2017, Singh won her fourth Streamy Award.
Her first book, How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life, came out on March 28, 2017. It quickly became a No. 1 bestseller on the New York Times list. She won the award for Best Non-Fiction at the 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards. Her 2017 world tour was based on the book's ideas. A new book, Be a Triangle, was released in April 2022.
Singh was cast in HBO's movie Fahrenheit 451 in 2017. She played Raven, a blogger who helps spread government messages. In November 2017, Singh became an ambassador for Pantene shampoo and partnered with Calvin Klein. In 2018, she appeared in the music video for Maroon 5's song "Girls Like You".
In 2018, Singh launched her own production company, Unicorn Island Productions, based in Los Angeles.
Late Night Show and New Projects (2019–Present)
In March 2019, NBC announced that Lilly Singh would host a new late night talk show called A Little Late with Lilly Singh. It took over from Last Call with Carson Daly. The show started on September 16, 2019. It received good reviews from critics. NBC renewed the show for a second season, which premiered in January 2021. However, in May 2021, Singh and NBC announced that the show would end after two seasons.
In August 2019, Singh stopped using the name "Superwoman" on Instagram. She was also nominated for "Audience Choice Creator of the Year" at the 9th Streamy Awards.

In 2020, Singh started creating videos on TikTok. As of July 2023, she has over 1.5 million followers there. She was supposed to host the 31st GLAAD Media Awards in March 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On August 18, 2020, Singh announced on the Today Show that she would star in, write, and produce a sketch comedy show. It was called Sketchy Times with Lilly Singh. NBC ordered two episodes, which were filmed at Singh's home. The show was released on Peacock in October 2020.
In September 2020, Singh worked with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics committee. She helped create one of the many emblems for the games. Her "A" represents pride.
It was announced in September 2020 that Singh would voice Penny in Riverdance: The Animated Adventure, released in 2021. She also voiced Pickles in another film, Hitpig!, released in 2024. In 2021, Singh signed a deal with Netflix for a comedy project. She also made a deal with Universal Television Alternative Studio through her Unicorn Island Productions company.
She appeared as Liv in the second season of the Hulu series Dollface, which came out in February 2022. In October 2021, it was announced that Singh would be a judge on the second season of Canada's Got Talent, which started in March 2022. She also starred as Nora in The Muppets Mayhem for Disney+, which received good reviews.
On April 6, 2022, Singh released her new book, Be a Triangle. After signing a deal with Bell Media, it was announced that Singh would host CTV's new quiz show, Battle of the Generations, which started in June 2023. In March 2023, Singh was a co-host for the pre-show of the 95th Academy Awards.
In 2024, Singh starred in the film Doin' It, which premiered at South by Southwest. She is also set to produce a movie based on the novel Arzu through her company.
Personal Life
Lilly Singh is an Indo-Canadian person. She has a strong connection to her Punjabi heritage, which she learned more about during visits to India. She has said that she believes in God but does not follow any specific religion.
Singh has shared that she struggled with her feelings and began making YouTube videos as a way to cope. As a young adult, she lived with her parents in Markham, Ontario. In 2022, she was diagnosed with ovarian cysts.
In July 2020, Singh announced that she and other celebrities were bringing a National Women's Soccer League team to Los Angeles. The team is called Angel City FC and started playing in 2022.

She was also featured in Fast Company Magazine as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business. Variety magazine named her one of their 10 Comics to Watch in 2016.
Forbes named her one of the 40 most powerful people in comedy in 2019. In October 2019, Vogue India named her one of their Women of the Year. She was also on the Time 100 Next list.
