Arie "Aar" de Goede (born May 21, 1928 – died May 16, 2016) was an important Dutch politician. He was a member of the Democrats 66 (D66) political party. Aar de Goede held several key roles in the Dutch government. He served in the House of Representatives and the Senate. He was also a member of the European Parliament.

Aar de Goede's Journey in Politics
Aar de Goede was born in Vlaardingen, a city in the Netherlands. This was on May 21, 1928. He went to a trade school and studied tax law. In 1947, he started working for the Tax and Customs Administration. This is the government office that handles taxes. Later, he worked in finance and accounting. In 1956, he became a financial administrator. He worked at the Reactor Centrum Nederland.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Aar de Goede became active in politics with the Democrats 66 party in 1967. He was elected to the House of Representatives. This happened after the general election in February 1967. He was one of the first seven members of his party in the House. The House of Representatives is where laws are made in the Netherlands.
While in the House, he worked on a special group. This group looked at how the different parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands would work together in the future. He served in the House until May 11, 1973.
Working for the Government: State Secretary
In 1973, Aar de Goede was given a new role. He became the State Secretary for Finance. This means he helped the Minister of Finance manage the country's money. He was part of the government led by Joop den Uyl. During this time, he helped change important financial rules for the government. He stayed in this job until December 1977.
Serving in Europe and Back Home
After his time as State Secretary, Aar de Goede was elected to the European Parliament. This was in 1979. The European Parliament is where laws are made for the whole of Europe. He was the main candidate for his party in that election. He served in the European Parliament from July 17, 1979, to July 23, 1984.
Later, Aar de Goede returned to politics in the Netherlands. He served in the Senate for about a year. This was from June 3, 1986, to June 23, 1987. The Senate is another important part of the Dutch government.
Aar de Goede was recognized for his service to the country. He was made a Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion on April 11, 1978. This is a special honor in the Netherlands. He passed away in Zoeterwoude on May 16, 2016.
