Abdoulatifou Aly (born April 12, 1960 – died June 26, 2020) was a French politician from Mayotte, an island in the Indian Ocean. He was born in Madagascar and later became a French citizen. He spent many years representing Mayotte in the French National Assembly, which is like the main parliament of France. He was also an important member of the Democratic Movement political party.

Becoming a Lawyer
Abdoulatifou Aly went to primary and middle school in Mayotte. He then finished high school in Saint-Denis-de-la-Réunion. After that, he studied law at the Robert Schumann University in Strasbourg, France. He learned a lot about the laws that govern different regions and towns.
After his studies, he worked in Moselle, a region in France. He helped with social programs there. In 1988, he returned to Mayotte. He worked in finance and later became a top administrator. He also worked as a lawyer in Mamoudzou, Mayotte.

Early Political Roles

Becoming a Member of Parliament
In the 2007 French elections, Abdoulatifou Aly ran for a seat in the National Assembly. He was supported by the Democratic Movement party. He won the election on June 17, 2007, with more than half of the votes. He beat another candidate, Masour Kamardine.
During his campaign, he strongly believed that Mayotte should have the same rights as other parts of France. He said, "It is a must that the same rights come to Mayotte as everywhere else in the Republic."

As a member of the National Assembly, he made important decisions. For example, he did not vote to support the government led by François Fillon at that time. He joined the main group of the Democratic Movement party in November 2007.
In 2010, Abdoulatifou Aly shared his thoughts on a law about burqas.

In the 2012 elections, Abdoulatifou Aly did not get many votes. He lost his seat in the National Assembly. In 2013, he was declared unable to run for office for one year.
