Abee is a small community called a hamlet in Alberta, Canada. It is located within Thorhild County. You can find Abee along the Canadian National Railway and Highway 63. It is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) northeast of Thorhild. Abee is also about 49 kilometers (30 miles) south of Boyle. The hamlet sits at an elevation of about 665 meters (2,182 feet) above sea level.
History of Abee
The hamlet of Abee was named after A.B. Donley. He was a manager for a lumber company.
The Abee Meteorite
A very special event happened near Abee in June 1952. A farmer named Harry Buryn found a rare meteorite in his wheat field. This space rock is known as the Abee meteorite.
What makes it so special? It is the only example in the world of a specific type of meteorite. Scientists call it an "EH4 impact-melt breccia meteorite." This means it's a unique kind of rock from space. It was formed when different pieces of space rock were melted together by a powerful impact.
