Joan Abelló gave his amazing art collection to the city in 1996. This gift helped create the Joan Abelló Foundation. This foundation helps manage the museum and its artworks. The museum building itself is quite old and beautiful. It was built in 1908 in a style called Art Nouveau. Only the front part of the original building remains today.
