Abigail Irozuru was born in Manchester. Her parents are from the Igbo people, a large group in Nigeria.
Her Athletics Journey
Starting Out
Abigail started doing athletics when she was 14 years old. She was really good at a youth sports event, winning races like the 100m and 200m, plus the long jump. Because she was so good, she was invited to train at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Her talent quickly became clear. In 2006, Abigail won silver medals at both the English Schools Championships and British Schools Championships. She was competing against many other strong young jumpers.
Moving to London and Big Jumps
Later, Abigail moved to London to study law at University College London. While there, she continued her training. She worked with coaches who helped her improve her long jump skills.
In 2012, Abigail won a silver medal at a national indoor long jump event. She also won gold at her first senior international competition in Bratislava. On June 9, 2012, she made a personal best jump of 6.80 meters in Bulgaria. This jump was good enough to qualify her for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Comeback and World Championships
Abigail decided to retire from the sport in 2016. However, she made an amazing comeback in 2019! She improved her personal best jump to 6.86 meters. That same year, she reached the final of the World Championships in Doha, where she finished seventh.

Abigail Irozuru is a Christian. She once said that she sees herself as "a daughter of the Almighty God." She also describes herself as an athlete, a speaker, a coach, a daughter, and a sister.
