Acapulco Mexican Restaurant and Cantina is a popular restaurant chain that serves delicious Mexican food. It first opened its doors in 1960 in Pasadena, California. Today, all of its restaurants are located in sunny California, mostly in the Southern California area. The company is part of the Xperience Restaurant Group, which has its main office in Cypress, California. There are currently four Acapulco restaurants where people can enjoy their meals.

How Acapulco Grew Over Time
Acapulco Mexican Restaurant and Cantina has a long history. In 1985, a company called Restaurant Associates bought Acapulco. Later, in 1998, another large company named Compass Group took over Restaurant Associates.
At that time, Acapulco became part of a new group. This group was led by a company called Bruckmann, Rosser, Sherrill & Co. They used Acapulco as the first restaurant in a bigger company they were building. This new company was named Real Mex Restaurants. Real Mex Restaurants then bought other well-known Mexican food chains, like El Torito and Chevys Fresh Mex.
Changes in Ownership and New Beginnings
In 2006, a company called Sun Capital Partners, Inc. bought Real Mex Restaurants. This was a big change for the company.
However, in 2011, Real Mex faced some tough times. The economy was not doing well, and the company had to make some big decisions. It was eventually bought by a group of its lenders in 2012.
Then, in 2018, a new company called FM Restaurants HoldCo, LLC took over Acapulco Mexican Restaurant and Cantina. They started running the restaurants under a new name: Xperience Restaurant Group. This means Acapulco is now part of the Xperience Restaurant Group family of restaurants.
